Delegates from all corners of Australia, and some overseas, gathered on Saturday 12 July at St.Peter's College in Adelaide, South Australia for the Annual AUSTSWIM National Aquatic Education Conference .

Swimming, water safety and a healthy active lifestyle was the theme for the Annual Conference held amongst the historic buildings of St Peter's College. Situated on 32 hectares of landscaped grounds and a stones throw away from the Adelaide city centre, the St.Peter's College sports centre, a recent addition to the school, was the perfect venue to host the 200 delegates.

The Conference was officially opened by The Hon. Minister Michael Wright who applauded AUSTSWIM for providing such a valuable resource to the aquatic industry and praised all in attendance for their service in keeping drowning rates down.

Bringing the delegation up to speed with AUSTSWIM news was AUSTSWIM Chairman, Kirk Marks who also presented a historical view of baby programs and showcased innovations to teaching aquatics over the past 10 years.  Kirk's presentation included some stimulating footage and insightful findings which received some great reviews.

The morning and afternoon sessions catered for all aspects of swimming and water safety programs including infants, school aged children, people with a disability and adults with an informative and interactive program featuring highly-respected speakers from around the country.

During the breaks delegates had the opportunity to meet and network with swimming teachers, swim school coordinators/owners plus find purchase a bargain from our extensive trade exhibitors.

The highlight of the Conference was no doubt the evocative and motivational key note address from one of Australia's most sought after speakers, Laurie Lawrence. There would be few who do not know of Laurie or his spirited personality on the pool deck or his Kids Alive – Do The Five! campaign.

Laurie displayed the spirited personality, sense of humour and his zest for life which has made him one of Australia’s favourite sons, and admired by many Australians, from little children who attend his coaching clinics to International Corporate Leaders who look to him for inspiration and new ideas.

A special thank you to our presenters and guest speakers for sharing their wisdom and experience and we are confident that everyone walked away with valuable information and skills to apply to their swimming and water safety programs.

AUSTSWIM would also like to thank the sponsors, trade exhibitors, delegates, staff and in particular Karina Nakos, Bernie Juckers and the team at the St Peter's College for the use of their outstanding facilities and making this conference such a success.

Several pre-conference workshops were offered in conjunction with the National Conference including a Swimming Teacher of Adults Course on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 July, plus a Presenters Workshop on Friday 11 July.
