Becoming an AUSTSWIM Presenter – Frequently Asked Questions

Have you ever thought about becoming an AUSTSTWIM Presenter? Here are some Frequently Asked Questions that will assist you in deciding your suitability for the course.

What course do I start with?

It is recommended you undertake the Presenter of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSW) course initially for a number of reasons:

  • Firstly, as this is the initial course that a trainee swimming teacher must perform, there are more courses run and therefore more work available for presenters in this field.
  • Secondly, the Presenter of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Course acts as a good building block for all other AUSTSWIM Courses and therefore you will have vital knowledge that you will be able to pass onto candidates.

What skills/qualifications do I need to have to apply for the Presenter of TSW course ?

  • Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming & Water Safety certificate
  • At least 2 years of school aged teaching experience encompassing a minimum of 300 hours (with a range of age, ability and class sizes)
  • Holds or is willing to work towards a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) or holds a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (BSZ40198).

What does the AUSTSWIM Presenters Course involve?

The AUSTSWIM Presenter of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety certificate is designed to provide you with knowledge and skills in the delivery and assessment of the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course.

The course consists of a minimum of 2 days attendance including theory and practical components and involves a combination of at course assessment, take home assignment, observation, questioning, role play, on the job training hours and assessment.

On successfully completing all assessment requirements, candidates will be issued with the AUSTSWIM Presenter of Teaching of Swimming & Water Safety certificate.

How much do Presenters get paid?

This will vary between AUSTSWIM course providers however approximately $30 per hour is paid.

How do I apply?

Due to the importance of ensuring that only the most appropriately qualified people represent AUSTSWIM, our selection criteria is quite rigid and automatic enrolment into a course should not be expected. When a course is advertised, the applicant will be asked to send a full resume and as well as answering the Key Selection Criteria and providing a reference from an aquatic specialist. In some instances, you may be required to attend an interview to establish course suitability.

How often are Presenter training courses offered?

Presenter training courses are offered when there is seen to be a need or a lack of available presenters within a certain area. Therefore there isn’t a set schedule for each state.
